Hallmark Channel premiered the newest Nelly Knows Mysteries movie last night, and we are here to tell you that this is a must-watch if you are a fan of whodunits and lighthearted mysteries. Also, look for a crossover character from another Hallmark Mystery movie.
Beloved Hallmark stars Pascale Hutton and Kavan Smith have teamed up yet again as advice columnist, Nelly Parker, and detective Michael Hogan. Fans have been loving this pair since they first got together on ‘When Calls The Heart’. She joined the cast at the end of season one, and he followed in season two. Their characters, Rosemary and Lee, got married in season four. Since then, they have starred in ‘The Perfect Bride’, ‘The Perfect Bride: Wedding Bells’, ‘You Had Me at Aloha’, and the first Nelly movie, “Nelly Knows Mysteries: A Fatal Engagement. Pascale and Kavan could star in pretty much anything, and I would tune in. They are pure chemistry together.
‘Nelly Knows Mysteries: All Manners of Murder‘ is about Nelly and Detective Michael, who set out to solve the murder of a guest while at a lavish dinner. She gets invited to this dinner party after the lady of the manor, Palmer, writes to her for advice about her family. Nelly asks Michael to be her guest. He assumes it’s a date, and she fails to correct him. They arrive for the dinner, and chaos breaks out.
The dinner is attended by Palmer, her attorney Adam, her brother Hux, nephew Teddy, sister-in-law Claire, and half-sister Bree. Palmer announces that she is changing her will and disinheriting the family and leaving it all to her beloved pomeranian, Moxie. Also in attendance are Palmer’s butler, Norman, and the caterer, Leah.
Leah, it turns out, is Michael’s ex-wife. She is played by much-loved Yan Kay Crystal Lowe. She is the popular Hallmark actress who is bravely battling breast cancer. ‘Nelly Knows Mysteries: All Manners of Murder’ follows classic whodunit tropes. The dinner party where a will is discussed, a murder in the dark, an elaborate manor with secret rooms and passages. Did the butler do it? Did the disinherited family do it? Or did the caterer do it?
Of course, Nelly does turn to her granny, the walking club, and her friend, Fiona, at the paper for help on solving the mystery. We meet Eli, Stella’s grandson. Eli Flint is a law student who first appeared in the Hallmark Mystery, True Justice: Family Ties. He’s played by Markian Tarasiuk.
‘Nelly Knows Mysteries: All Manner of Murder’ gets a 4.5 Popcorn Bucket rating from me. As a fan of lighthearted mysteries, this will probably be a favorite for me for a time to come. I love this kind of mystery. I’ve always been a whodunit fan. For Mystery March, I am working my way through the Hallmark Mystery catalogue. Look for more on that to come at the end of the month.
