CinemaCon Adds New Monday Showcase Featuring Angel, Row K, and STUDIOCANAL. CinemaCon is trying something new this year. For the first time, they’re hosting a big Monday afternoon event at the Colosseum in Caesars Palace called the “CinemaCon Film Showcase.”
On April 13, three major players—Angel, Row K Entertainment, and STUDIOCANAL—will take the stage to show off their upcoming movie slates. Usually, the Monday slots are a bit quieter, but this change puts these distributors front and center at the start of the week.
Michael O’Leary, who runs Cinema United, says this is about celebrating the variety of movies that keep theaters running year-round. He pointed out that theaters in towns of all sizes need a steady stream of different stories to stay in business.
The leaders from all three companies are pretty hyped about it. STUDIOCANAL’s Anna Marsh said it’s a big moment for them to connect with theater owners on such a massive stage. Meanwhile, Brandon Purdie from Angel and the guys from Row K, Christopher Woodrow and Raj Singh, emphasized that their focus is on ensuring audiences have plenty of options when they head to the cinema.
Basically, the industry is leaning into the idea that “one size fits all” doesn’t work for movies anymore. By giving these companies a primetime spot, CinemaCon is acknowledging that diverse, independent, and international films are just as vital to the big screen as the massive summer blockbusters.
The whole convention runs from April 13-16 in Las Vegas, and this new showcase is officially kicking off the theater-focused programming.
