The past releases spent 7 weeks in a row at the top position and were massive hits internationally. Fire & Ash seems to be tracking really well going into the Holiday Weekend, both domestically and internationally.
The pressure of doing massive box office numbers is not on the film itself; the movie seems like it has paid for itself already. Unlike Way of Water, which needed to be one of the biggest box office movies of all time according to James Cameron, “Avatar: The Way of Water needed to become one of the top-grossing releases of all time to break even.” Plus, opening weekends have never been an “Avatar” thing. It is all about legs, and will fans keep showing up at premium screenings like the IMAX or Dolby Cinema showings?
