Who’s Who in ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’: Character Guide. James Cameron is officially taking audiences back to the bioluminescent wilds of Pandora. With Avatar: Fire and Ash set to ignite the box office this Friday, December 19, the third installment of the record-breaking franchise promises a darker, more emotional journey for the Sully family. Most showings start today, Dec 18th, 2025.

Whether you are a seasoned “Avatar” veteran or a newcomer wondering why the tall blue people are trending, here is everything you need to know about the characters driving the new epic. Tickets and Avatar: Fire & Ash popcorn buckets are now available.

The story picks up just a few weeks after the events of Avatar: The Way of Water. The Sully family is still living amongst the Metkayina in the picturesque reefs of Pandora. However, they’re still learning to adjust to life without Neteyam (Jamie Flatters), who was killed in a brutal skirmish with the “Sky People” from the RDA (Resources Development Administration). Jake, Neytiri, Lo’ak (Britain Dalton), Tuk (Trinity Jo-Li Bliss), Spider (Jack Champion), and Kiri (Sigourney Weaver) are each dealing with the loss in their own way. Worried for Spider’s safety, the family begins a journey to take him back to High Camp, the Omatikaya’s stronghold.

The Sully Family: A House Divided by Grief:

The story picks up just weeks after the events of The Way of Water. The Sully family is mourning the loss of their eldest son, Neteyam, following a brutal battle with the human “Sky People” (the RDA).

Jake Sully (Sam Worthington): Once a human Marine, Jake permanently transferred his consciousness into a Na’vi body to lead the forest people. Now a father of four, he is struggling to balance his role as a legendary warrior with the pain of losing a child.

Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña): A fierce Na’vi warrior and Jake’s wife. Usually the heartbeat of her clan, she begins this film “hanging by a thread,” her faith tested by a grief that threatens to consume her.

Kiri (Sigourney Weaver): The Sullys’ adopted teenage daughter. She has a mysterious, almost supernatural connection to Pandora’s deity, Eywa. Despite the war, she finds solace in her bond with Spider.

Lo’ak (Britain Dalton): The middle child and the narrator of this new chapter. Feeling responsible for his brother’s death, Lo’ak struggles to live up to the impossible legacy of his heroic father.

Tuk (Trinity Jo-Li Bliss): The youngest of the clan. Though often underestimated, her resilience often saves the family when they least expect it.

The Outsiders: Friends and Foes:

Spider (Jack Champion): A human child born on Pandora and raised by the Na’vi. Though he views the Sullys as family, he is actually the biological son of the franchise’s main villain, Quaritch, leaving him torn between two worlds.

Tsireya (Bailey Bass): A member of the ocean-dwelling Metkayina clan and Lo’ak’s close confidante. She acts as the bridge between the different Na’vi cultures.

Ronal (Kate Winslet): The fierce, pregnant matriarch of the reef people. She remains wary of outsiders, prioritizing the safety of her tribe above all else.

The New Threat: The Ash People:

While previous films focused on the “Omatikaya” (Forest) and “Metkayina” (Water), Fire and Ash introduces a terrifying new tribe: The Mangkwan, also known as the Ash People.

Varang (Oona Chaplin): The leader of the Ash People. Unlike the peaceful tribes we’ve met before, Varang’s people live in a desolate, volcanic environment. Driven by despair and desperation, she and her followers represent a more aggressive, volatile side of Na’vi culture.

The Returning Villain

Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang): The man who led the initial invasion of Pandora is back. Though his human body died, his memories and personality were “downloaded” into a powerful Na’vi avatar. Defeated but not destroyed, he is regrouping for a revenge mission that promises to be more personal than ever.
