It’s Okay to Say Gay! Just Not Too Loud: A Quieter Pride for Disney in 2025. In the past few years, June 1st meant reading articles from Disney Parks and Disney Eats about the Pride Collection being released online at Disney Store, along with shops in Disneyland and Walt Disney World. Snacks, Treats, novelties, and popcorn buckets would be announced for every guest to purchase, if they so chose, while visiting the World’s Most Magical Place on Earth or the Happiest Place on Earth. 2025 is different, and Disney Parks is being very quiet when it comes to June being Pride Month.
June marks Pride Month, a time dedicated to honoring the Stonewall Uprising and acknowledging the profound impact of LGBTQ+ individuals throughout history. It’s a month-long celebration filled with diverse events like parades, festivals, and rallies, all aimed at promoting acceptance, equality, and visibility for the LGBTQ+ community.
Disney Parks, along with its parent company, The Walt Disney Company, has a long history of supporting and celebrating its gay community through various initiatives and events. Unfortunately, 2025 does not feel the same as years past. As of early June, there are no social media icons with rainbows. There has been only one post on social media recognizing Pride Month, and that was from Disneyland. Yes, there is a Pride Collection for sale online and in the Parks, but no announcements. Yes, there are snacks and treats available at the parks, including a new Mickey Hands Pride Popcorn Bucket. It is just not being announced.
In previous years, the Disney Parks Blog consistently featured multiple posts leading up to and during June, announcing events, merchandise, and food guides. In contrast, 2025 has seen no such announcements, despite the collection being available.

This apparent shift in Disney’s public approach to Pride Month coincides with a period of increased political scrutiny and backlash the company has faced, particularly in Florida, concerning its stances on LGBTQ+ rights. Following the passage of Florida’s Parental Rights in Education Act (often referred to as the ‘Don’t Say Gay’ law) and subsequent public disagreements between The Walt Disney Company and the state, some observers believe the company may be attempting to de-escalate potential controversies or avoid further politicization of its brand.
For many LGBTQ+ guests and allies who previously celebrated Disney’s visible support, this quieter approach in 2025 may signal a retreat from corporate allyship, raising questions about the authenticity and consistency of inclusivity efforts in a shifting cultural and political landscape. This shift may also just be a way for Disney to stay under the radar and not bring attention to what the company does for guests and especially Cast Members behind the scenes.
