Two gold medal winners from Walt Disney World’s Churro-lympics are now on the menu at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The Churro-misu Cold Brew is at Isle of Java on Discovery Island, and the DOLE Whip Pineapple and Chili-Lime and Churro Sundae is at Warung Outpost in Asia, near Feathered Friends in Flight!
Both treats come from Chef Brad and his Animal Kingdom culinary team, who won two gold medals at the Churro-lympics, a friendly competition this spring that challenged Disney chefs across property to reinvent the classic Disney churro. Disney’s photo from the event shows a room full of chefs, some wearing gold, silver and bronze medals, posing with a giant smiling churro.
The Churro-misu Cold Brew is a coffee take on tiramisu. “With the Churro-misu Cold Brew, we wanted the flavors of the classic tiramisu,” Chef Brad said. It starts with sweetened Joffrey’s Cold Brew Coffee, topped with mascarpone cream and a dusting of cocoa powder, and comes with crunchy churros standing in the cup.
The sundae puts two Disney snack favorites in one cup. Pineapple DOLE Whip is layered with chili-lime marinated pineapple and topped with warm cinnamon sugar churros, and Disney’s photos also show shredded coconut and a drizzle on top. Chef Brad said it “balances sweet, tart, spicy, creamy, and crunchy all in one fun tropical sundae!”
Disney has not listed prices for either one. For comparison, a plain churro at Warung Outpost is $7.49 on recent menus.
It is another look at the cast members behind Disney food, after our recent story on cast member Dan Laske and his espresso martini milkshake. If you head to Animal Kingdom for these, it is also the only park selling the Holiday Christmas Tree Truck popcorn bucket this season.
