Disney Adult Discourse Shouldn't Stop. It Should Get Smarter.

Disney Adult Discourse Shouldn’t Stop. It Should Get Smarter.

The Disney Adult discourse should not stop, no matter what a recent article told the internet this week. After covering Walt Disney World every day since 2020, we have watched social media push a small group of Disney fans to go way too far in the parks, and the fix is not silence. The fix is calling out the behavior, out loud, without pretending every argument has only two sides.

Here is the short version of that article. The Disney Adult fight is mostly an internet invention: negative headlines get clicks, hot takes answer them, nobody cares about it offline, and so everybody should just stop. The writer even admitted that writing about it made him part of the problem. Points for honesty. He also said his piece was sparked by a defense of Disney Adults that did not seem to be answering any actual attack. So that was a response to nothing; his article was a response to that response, and this is a response to his. Inception had fewer layers. Somebody grab a spinning top.

Disney Adult Discourse Shouldnt Stop It Should Get Smarter

The Fight Isn’t Only Online. Online Is Why It Happens.

The article’s best proof that nobody cares in real life is that people at a work Christmas party never brought it up. Nobody at a work Christmas party has ever told me my sweater was ugly either. That does not mean the sweater is fine.

We live about 10 miles from the Magic Kingdom entrance and cover these parks for a living. Everything below happened in front of us, not in a comment section. And a lot of it happened for a phone.

“It’s Okay, I’m From Colombia!” – A woman in a full Encanto outfit, with a child dressed to match, stepped over a barrier Disney had put up so she could get a better picture of the two of them for social media. When I asked why she was doing it, she turned and shouted that it was okay because she was from Colombia, where Encanto takes place.

Encanto is set in Colombia. The barrier was set in Florida. Being from Colombia is wonderful. It is not a Lightning Lane through a rope line. Disney puts barriers up for a reason, and pulling a little one over one for a photo is exactly the kind of moment that deserves to be called out on the spot.

Pin Tuesday at Disney Springs Is Not a Cage Match – Pin trading is supposed to be one of the friendliest traditions at Walt Disney World. Lately it has not felt that way. We have watched the pin collecting crowd get worse, with real arguments breaking out at Disney Springs on Pin Tuesdays. Grown adults, raised voices, all over a piece of enamel smaller than a cookie. The hobby is fine. The shouting is the problem.

Nobody’s Vacation Gets Ruined by a Crying Kid – Walking behind Cinderella Castle, we watched a woman in her late twenties turn to the upset, screaming child with her and yell, “You are ruining my vacation!”

I have five kids. I have had the meltdown day. Florida heat, long lines and what a park ticket costs would test anyone, and Magic Kingdom is hard on parents. But a crying kid there is not a ruined vacation. It is a normal afternoon in Fantasyland. If something ruined that vacation, it was not the little one.

Dressing for the Photo, Not the Forecast – We all roll our eyes at the people way overdressed for a park day. Some of those outfits are the cutest things in the park. Not when it is 100 degrees with 100 percent humidity. Girl, that image ain’t worth it. Heat exhaustion does not photograph well.

The runDisney 5K Snobs Had a Rough Weekend – This one is happening right now. The 2026 Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend is underway at Walt Disney World, and the Aristocats-themed 5K ran Friday, October 23. runDisney opened up more 5K spots this year and spread out the start times, with the first group leaving at 4:30 a.m. and later groups starting as late as 7:30 a.m.

Some runners did not take it well. They went online upset that Disney let more people in, upset that a 5K had balloon ladies on the course, and upset that stopping to meet Marie from The Aristocats could get them swept. One complaint boiled down to this: they were already done, and these poor people were only now starting their race.

That is not a scandal. That is a staggered start. A 5K is 3.1 miles. Even at runDisney’s usual 16-minute-mile pace, that is under 50 minutes and a medal with three kittens on it. Finishing while someone else is starting does not make you better. It makes you earlier. Nothing says community like a finisher medal and a sneer.

Every Fandom Has a Guy on a Pole – I am from Philly. I have watched grown men climb light poles the city greased specifically to stop them from climbing. Nobody back home calls that being an Eagles fan. They call it that guy. Every fandom has one. Disney’s just wears ears.

That is the line the whole Disney Adult debate keeps missing. The guy on the pole makes the average Eagles fan look bad. The woman over the barrier makes the average Disney fan look bad. Neither one is the fandom. They are the people who took it too far.

There Are Never Only Two Sides

The Disney Drop Shop at Disney Springs Bringing Pop Mart and Blind Box Collectibles to Walt Disney World

Somewhere along the way, the internet decided every argument gets exactly two sides. Disney Adults are either a plague on society or just sports fans with better snacks, and everybody should relax. Both camps are lazy. Most adults who love Disney are people who like the parks, buy the popcorn bucket and go home happy. A few treat the parks like a set for their next post. Those are different people, and lumping them together is how the conversation stays dumb.

Telling everyone to stop talking about it does not fix that. It freezes the two loudest camps in place and buries every subtle point in between. The recent article told everyone to stop trying to make Disney Adults a thing. Fine. Let’s stop trying to make “just stop talking about it” a thing.

What Changed Since 2020 Is Social Media – Here is what we have actually seen since 2020. Disney Adults did not get worse. Social media taught some fans that the stunt is the point. The barrier is just in the way of the shot. The outfit is for the feed, not the forecast. Some people will pull a stunt in a theme park for a few extra clicks, and that deserves to be called out every time, no matter who is doing it.

Call It Out. Don’t Pile On. – Calling it out does not mean dragging one stranger across the internet for a week. A pile-on is the same social media problem in a different outfit. Calling it out means saying, out loud and in public, that climbing a barrier with your kid is not okay, that screaming at a crying child is not okay, and that sneering at the back of the pack is not okay. Say it whether the person is a so-called Disney Adult or a guy in an Eagles jersey hugging a greased pole.

And yes, this article is for clicks. So was the one it is answering, and its writer was honest enough to admit he was adding to the very discourse he wanted gone. I respect that. The difference is I am not asking anyone to stop talking. I am asking everyone to talk better.

The Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon wraps up Sunday, October 25, and we will be back out in the parks this week telling you what we see, the good days and the barrier-hopping ones.
