Fall Into Love concludes with four ghosts and a romance in Hallmark Channel’s “The Spirit of Halloween”. The Spirit of Halloween is a spooktacular take on a beloved Christmas classic starring Meghan Ory and Kevin McGarry, premiering on Hallmark Channel tonight and streaming tomorrow on Hallmark+.
No Humbug but plenty of haunts in this Hallmark Channel retelling of Charles Dickens ‘ A Christmas Carol. Gone are the snowy Scrooge Christmases and in are Halloweens of past, present, and future for Everly Stone, a bridal designer who has no patience for Halloween, especially the beloved fire-station bash that once left her heartbroken in front of everyone she knew. But when her late mentor, played by the brilliant Sheila McCarthy, appears with a glamorous warning, Everly Stone is swept through one unforgettable night by three mischievous spirits who reveal the joy she lost, the people she’s pushing away, and the future she might miss if she keeps hiding behind work and fear. With a loyal assistant ready for more, a town waiting to welcome her back, and longtime friend Beau Madison (Kevin McGarry) still carrying a spark from their past, Everly Stone must decide whether Halloween is the night that broke her heart or the one that can finally help it heal.
Taking A Christmas Carol and adapting it is not something new. We’ve all seen various iterations of it. This is taking the story and bringing it to a new holiday. Halloween is perfect for this. They even make mention in the movie that Halloween is the perfect holiday for the ghostly tale. The story is really a chance for Meghan Ory to shine. Seeing her interact with not only her present life and her unrequited love for Beau, but also seeing her grow with each of the four ghosts was a fun journey.
Kevin McGarry is his usual effortlessly charming self as Beau. He is a great anchor for Meghan’s Everly. Beau is patient, supportive, and deeply in love with Everly. The ghosts are perfection, especially Hallmark fan favorite Lachlan Quarmby as The Ghost of Halloween Future. His coolness radiates off the screen in every scene he’s in. The Spirit of Halloween is written by Nicole Baxter, who has written many much-loved Hallmark movies, including this year’s The Way to You.
We got a chance to talk to Meghan Ory this week, and she talks about how she enjoyed playing a character who evolves from a Halloween cynic into someone who embraces the spirit of the holiday. She mentions how the set decoration provided a festive, joyful environment for the cast and crew, which is similar to the sets of Christmas movies. Meghan also mentions that becoming a parent has changed her own relationship with Halloween, noting that watching her children’s excitement brings her a new and heartwarming feeling about Halloween.
If you love Halloween and fall fun, this is the movie for you. If you love A Christmas Carol and want to see it adapted into something Halloween-themed and silly, this is a great watch for you. I loved the tongue-in-cheek fun that this movie poked at itself, and its comparisons to A Christmas Carol. This movie is fun, silly, thoughtful, and best of all, there’s romance all while seeing a Halloween backdrop.
The Spirit of Halloween wraps up Fall Into Love for Hallmark Channel and is the last non-Countdown to Christmas movie of the year. Countdown to Christmas starts October 16th with ‘Tis the Season for Setups starring Amanda Schull and Victor Webster.
