Tokyo Disneyland just confirmed a full rebuild of Tomorrowland, and the headline news is two brand new rides. Oriental Land Co. announced on August 13, 2026 that a roughly 100 billion yen investment will bring Space Mountain Earthrise and a Wreck-It Ralph attraction called Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue to the park in spring 2027, along with new shops and dining built around a redesigned central hub called Tomorrowland Plaza.
Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue is the bigger story for anyone who grew up on the movie. It sends guests into the candy-racing game from Wreck-It Ralph, teaming up with Ralph and Vanellope to fix Sugar Bugs, glitches King Candy created, and turn them back into candy and cupcakes. Disney is calling it an interactive storytelling experience, and it’s set to be the first attraction anywhere themed to Wreck-It Ralph. A shop called Pixel Prism will sit right next to it, and a popcorn stand named Popping Station will serve guests facing the new plaza.
Space Mountain Earthrise is the other centerpiece, and it keeps the coaster’s classic setup while rebuilding almost everything around it. Tokyo Disneyland’s original Space Mountain has run since the park opened in 1983, and this version keeps the indoor space theme but adds new architecture, a new story, and ride vehicles with their own onboard audio, a first for a coaster at Tokyo Disney Resort. The name comes from the “earthrise” image of Earth appearing over the Moon’s horizon, a detail unique to this version of Space Mountain among Disney parks worldwide. Coca-Cola Japan is the presenting sponsor.
Tomorrowland Plaza ties both attractions together at the center of the land, built around the idea of nature and humanity coexisting, with fire, water, earth and wood worked into the design and a nighttime light show planned for the space. A quick-service spot called Element Express will handle snacks and drinks there.
No exact 2027 opening dates have been announced yet for either ride. FLN will keep tracking construction updates and new details as Oriental Land Co. releases them.
