On July 3, 2026, Disney marked the milestone with a ceremony at the entrance of Disneyland park, celebrating seven decades of visitors from around the world who’ve walked through the gates of Disneyland and Disney California Adventure since 1955.
The honoree was eight-year-old Andres Robles of Arizona, who arrived with his parents, Alejandra and Jose Robles, expecting nothing more than a birthday trip to the parks. Instead, the family found themselves at the center of Disney history as the resort’s honorary one billionth guest.
The Robles family was brought to the Main Street, U.S.A. train station platform for a short ceremony with the Disney Ambassadors of Disneyland Resort, where they helped unveil an updated sign listing Disneyland’s population as 1,000,000,000. Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse joined the celebration on the platform, and Jill Estorino, President of Disneyland Resort, personally greeted the family. Donald Duck and Daisy Duck later joined Andres and his parents for a photo opportunity.
As part of the honor, the family received a VIP tour guide for the day, including a visit to Walt Disney’s private apartment above the Main Street Fire Station, a stop at the newly opened Soarin’ Across America attraction, and other experiences reserved for milestone moments like this one.
The timing lines up with Disneyland’s 71st anniversary, just days away. When it opened on July 17, 1955, Disneyland introduced an entirely new concept in family entertainment and effectively launched the modern theme park industry. Since then, the resort has grown into a full destination with two parks, three hotels, and the Downtown Disney District, and it has served as the direct inspiration for Disney parks built across the globe.
Now, was the Robles family picked out ahead of time for a perfectly staged photo op? Almost certainly. Disney doesn’t leave a milestone like this to chance. But that doesn’t take anything away from the number itself. One billion guests is a staggering figure for one park, and it makes us wonder what Walt Disney himself would think if he could see it. Did he ever imagine, back in 1955, that Disneyland would become the blueprint for a global empire of parks stretching from Orlando to Tokyo to Paris and beyond? It’s a milestone worth sitting with, staged photo op or not.
