Warrior Cats, the long-running children’s fantasy book saga that has sold more than 90 million copies worldwide, is being adapted into an animated television series for Disney+ and Disney Channel following a new deal between Coolabi Group and Disney Kids & Family, with a 2028 premiere date confirmed.
The series is currently in production, with Original Force, a global leader in CG and game content creation, serving as the animation studio on behalf of Tencent Video. A.C. Bradley, known for Ms. Marvel, What If?, and Tales of Arcadia: Trollhunters, is showrunner. Emmy-winning director Rodrigo Blaas, whose credits include Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, and WALL-E, will direct in collaboration with El Guiri Studios. This marks the first authorized animated adaptation of Warrior Cats, and the series will follow the core storytelling of the original book series, Warrior Cats: The Prophecies Begin.
Created by Working Partners, a Coolabi Group company, and written by Erin Hunter, Warrior Cats follows clans of wild cats and has been a fixture on the New York Times bestseller list for two decades, translated into 38 languages. The franchise’s digital footprint is enormous for a book series of its age — more than 2 million annual users on the official Warrior Cats website, 50 million monthly views across YouTube fan content, nearly 3 billion views on TikTok, and a Roblox game that has been played more than 735 million times.
Warrior Cats joins a growing roster of Disney Kids & Family animated titles including Bluey, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse+, Marvel’s Spidey and His Amazing Friends, Big City Greens, and Phineas and Ferb. Disney Kids & Family president Ayo Davis said the studio is always looking for imaginative storytelling that resonates with families, calling Warrior Cats a series that has inspired a generation of fans. Coolabi Group EVP Allison Watkins pointed to the brand’s momentum heading into the deal, noting that 2026 has already seen a successful US retail toy launch for Warrior Cats ahead of the show.
Our Take: Our daughter writes all the menus on this site now, and there was a stretch of her childhood where you genuinely could not get her to put a Warrior Cats book down. She would talk for an hour straight about clan names, character backstories, and at one point convinced the entire family that our actual house cats needed to be organized into our own clan. A lot of the Warrior Cats knowledge floating around this household exists because of her, so a 2028 premiere date means we already know exactly who is going to be most excited when this show actually airs.
