Graham told TMZ he was in Florida on Friday for a meeting with Trump envoy Steve Witkoff to discuss potential normalization between Saudi Arabia and Israel. After wrapping that up, he said he went to Orlando to meet friends before heading back to South Carolina. Chef Mickey’s was apparently part of the Orlando portion of the trip. The Irony Here Is Real
Graham has spent the past few years watching his Republican colleagues wage an all-out war on Disney. Senators called the company woke. Governor DeSantis went after the Reedy Creek special taxing district. Josh Hawley introduced legislation to strip Disney’s copyright protections. The culture war against Disney has been a defining feature of the modern Republican Party.
Graham never really joined that fight. While others were demanding boycotts and threatening legislation, the senator from South Carolina was apparently making reservations at the Contemporary Resort. Now we know why.
The Government Shutdown Context
The visit came during an ongoing partial government shutdown, with roughly 61,000 TSA employees working without pay. Long lines and staffing shortages have hit airports across the country. Congress left for a two-week recess without resolving the DHS funding standoff. Graham told TMZ he voted seven times to fully fund the government and put the blame on Democrats.
