Disney Legend Miley Cyrus opened up about what Hannah Montana means to her ahead of the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special, streaming Tuesday, March 24 on Disney+ and Hulu.
What Miley Said About Hannah Montana. Speaking at the Disney Legend Awards Ceremony in 2024, Cyrus reflected on the character that launched her career. “Hannah Montana is the beginning for everything that I’ve been able to become — the person that I’ve been able to become,” she said. “She is such a part of me and taught me everything that I know.”
Cyrus also addressed her place in Disney history. She was named the youngest-ever Disney Legend for her work on the series, and she made clear that the honor belongs to the fans as much as anyone. “It’s all about the fans,” she said. “My favorite part of this event is that you can put faces to all these fans who are responsible for giving us this life and these opportunities.”
About the Special. We first reported on the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special back in February when Disney+ confirmed the project. The special features an exclusive in-depth interview with Cyrus, hosted by Alex Cooper, with an intimate look at one of pop culture’s most enduring characters.
The Emmy-nominated series premiered on Disney Channel on March 24, 2006. It went on to spawn 14 platinum and 18 gold albums worldwide and two feature films. The catalog has now crossed half a billion hours streamed globally on Disney+.
Before the special drops, fans can stream the full series through the dedicated Hannah Montana non-stop Stream on Disney+, which launched back in February and features all four seasons, the concert film, and the 2009 movie.
What to Watch For
The special brings back iconic sets from the original series, including the Stewart family living room and the Hannah Montana closet. There is also archival footage that has not been seen publicly before. The production comes from HopeTown Entertainment and Unwell Productions, with Cyrus, Tish Cyrus-Purcell, Alex Cooper, and Matt Kaplan serving as executive producers.
