The voice of Darkwing Duck has spoken, and that makes it official. Jim Cummings, the original voice actor behind the masked defender of St. Canard, has confirmed that the Disney+ Darkwing Duck reboot is still in active development, offering the clearest update fans have received on the long-anticipated series in some time. Cummings shared the news on his Instagram account and in a new interview with Screen Rant, and the details he dropped are worth paying attention to.

Jim Cummings Confirms Recording Has Already Started. The biggest piece of news buried inside the update is that actual recording work has begun. Cummings revealed that the production team has already completed at least one piece of material tied to the new series, saying, “We’ve only recorded basically one offshoot so far.” That language suggests the team is still in early creative development, but the fact that anyone has stepped in front of a microphone at all signals meaningful forward momentum on a project that has been mostly quiet since it was first announced.

Cummings was characteristically enthusiastic about the revival, calling the return of the character “long overdue.” He has been vocal about how personally meaningful the role is to him, having previously said that Darkwing Duck is “very near and dear to my heart” and that he is “so honored that after 30 years he’s coming back.”

Seth Rogen Is Driving the Project Forward. Seth Rogen remains attached as an executive producer on the reboot, and Cummings pointed to him as a key reason the series is happening at all. “I guess Seth Rogen, my old buddy, he’s going to be one of the prime movers, shakers,” Cummings said. “So stay tuned.” Rogen’s involvement has been known for a while, but Cummings framing him as an active force rather than a passive name on a title card is an encouraging sign for the project’s health.

Gosalyn Has Grown Up. The most intriguing creative detail Cummings let slip involves Gosalyn, Drake Mallard’s adopted daughter and crime-fighting partner from the original series. In a word that should have fans very interested, Cummings confirmed: “Gosalyn’s grown up. So that’s interesting.” He also noted that Darkwing Duck himself has gotten older. The original show built its entire emotional core around the dynamic between the two of them, so a version of that relationship with adult versions of both characters could take the series in a completely different direction from its 1991 to 1992 run.

Darkwing Duck and Gosalyn Disney+ reboot

For anyone who missed it the first time around, Darkwing Duck was created by Tad Stones and aired on Disney from 1991 to 1992. The series centered on Drake Mallard, an ordinary suburban duck who secretly operated as the dramatic, purple-caped superhero Darkwing Duck. The show blended superhero action with comedy and a rotating gallery of eccentric villains, and it carved out a devoted following that has only grown more passionate in the decades since.

No release date has been announced by Disney, and plenty of creative decisions are still being made. But with Jim Cummings back in the booth and Seth Rogen steering the ship, the Darkwing Duck reboot is very much alive. For more Disney entertainment news, visit www.fantasylandnews.com.
