Hallmark Channel ‘Loveuary’ Movie Review: ‘The Stars Between Us’. Hallmark Channel’s The Stars Between Us Is Stuck In Orbit. Loveuary rolled on with a trip around the cosmos for ‘The Stars Between Us’. This is the third movie of the annual Loveuary event on Hallmark Channel. It aired yesterday and is now streaming on Hallmark+.

This movie stars Mistletoe Murder’s Sarah Drew as Kim Gallagher. Kim is a single mother who works for a news station in Chicago. She is jumping at the bit to get in front of the camera and grabs a chance to cover the Total Eclipse that is slated to happen. Matt Long stars as Professor Malcolm Brooks. Malcolm is an astronomy professor who has written a book and is trying to get his manuscript to a famed astronomer/podcaster who was once his own professor.

The official synopsis from Hallmark Channel is: Seven years ago, Kim made a connection with a stranger during an eclipse event. Now a fledgling news reporter, Kim returns to Illinois for this year’s eclipse, unaware that their paths may cross again.

The Stars Between Us – Our Review

The story begins with Kim and Malcolm having a chance meeting at an eclipse. They each have a significant other, but there is a spark between them. They don’t get each other’s names and skip to the present day. Kim is now a single mom, having been recently divorced. She gets a chance to go back to cover the eclipse seven years later.

At every turn for the next hour and a half, Kim and Malcolm are in the same place at the same time and keep missing each other. It’s a story we’ve seen a ton. While I enjoyed the story a lot, the movie drags in places and goes slowly. They finally meet up with about 15 minutes left in the movie and reunite.

The stars of the movie for me are the side players. Kim is joined by a team on the assignment. Nepo baby producer, Reed, and camerawoman, Claire. They are played by Grayson Gurnsey and Donna Benedicto. Malcolm is joined for the eclipse by his friend, Travis, and former student Meredith. They are played by Noah Paul and Junnicia Lagoutin. Predictably, Claire pairs up with Travis, and at the end, Reed pairs up with Meredith.

As my husband calls it, “The Santa figure” (the older guy that is often in the movies), is Professor Longford, played by Greg Rogers. They set him up for the beginning of the movie as the famous astrophysicist and hard to get an interview with. When we finally meet him, he’s affable and kind of jolly. (Maybe he’s right, the Santa figure)

When you see Benjamin Wilkinson in anything, you know you are in for a treat. He is one of the best “bad guys” on Hallmark Channel. I’d venture to say he’s one of two great villains, the other being Steve Bacic. They don’t always play a bad guy, but when they do, it’s magic. Benjamin Wilkinson plays a rival news reporter and tries to sabotage Kim’s report. I know when I see him, it’s a good time!

All in all, this sleepy movie is enjoyable and worth watching. I’d say it is a 3 out of 5 popcorn buckets. I’m not sure I’d be rewatching often, but I enjoyed the trip to the cosmos. Stay tuned next week for the finale of Loveuary with ‘Romance at Hope Ranch.’
