The Way to You: A Journey Worth Taking This Loveuary on Hallmark Channel. Hallmark Channel’s annual Loveuary event kicked off with a surprise hit: The Way to You. Starring Kim Matula and Aaron O’Connell, this movie proved that sometimes the best path to love is the one you didn’t mean to take. While I went in with low expectations, I’m so glad I gave it a chance—it’s a 5/5 popcorn bucket must-watch.
‘The Way to You‘ is the story of New Yorkers Emma and Conrad, who agree to help each other find their missed connections after a subway blackout. Their search might lead to love, but not where either of them expects to find it. Going into this movie, I didn’t have big expectations from what I saw in the previews. I’m glad that I gave it a chance. I recommend that you check this out on Hallmark Channel or Hallmark+.
The movie starts with our main characters, Emma and Conrad, in the subway. Conrad had just broken up with his last girlfriend. He wants a deep romance like his parents. Emma wants a stable relationship, and her sister tells her to take the subway to the financial district to see if you can meet someone. Emma is an artist and a gallerist. Conrad is an investment banker. We see them strike up conversations about books and art. But not with each other.
Then a blackout hits, and Emma and Conrad lose the person they were talking to. Conrad’s boss tells him to put a notice in the paper for missed connections. You can guess what happens. Emma responds to Conrad’s notice.

They start talking and decide to help each other find who they were looking for. He agrees to help her meet an investment banker, and she agrees to help him find the woman he’s looking for, “the lightning bolt”. He tells her about the unique ring that the mystery woman was wearing. Emma says that being in the art world, she could help find out who she is.
Emma and Conrad start spending a lot of time together. They go on walks and talks in the park. She points out that he always wears gray and tries to get him to loosen up. On one of their walks in the park, they meet a coworker, Aaron, and Conrad sets her up with him.
Meanwhile, Emma is faced with having to move out of the apartment that she shares with her sister and brother-in-law, who are moving to the Upper West Side. We do have a scene where Conrad comes up to the apartment, and Emma teaches him how to make pottery, ala the famous scene from ‘Ghost.’
Emma invites Conrad to her sister’s and brother-in-law’s going-away party. At the party, Emma realizes a woman at the bar is the mystery woman. She tells Conrad that the woman, Simone, is there. He goes and talks to her, and they seemingly start dating. Emma tries to date Aaron, but there is no spark between them. Conrad gets a job assignment that sends him to Tokyo for 6 months.

Conrad breaks it off with Simone, and Emma breaks it off with Aaron. They both realize that they have feelings for each other, but haven’t told the other one. Emma is packing up a truck to move for her sister, and Conrad is in a car heading to the airport. He sends a text that just says, “I miss.” Emma calls him and leaves a long voice mail that he doesn’t hear, which spills out how she feels for him. Conrad changes his mind and heads to her apartment. He confesses to her that he is in love with her and that she should move with him to Japan.
That’s the movie in a quick beat. I think that this was a huge hit movie. I’m giving this five out of five popcorn buckets. Kim Matula delivers the comedy and the heartbreak and love on all levels. Aaron O’Connell is so charming as the nerdy type A financial guy. As I said, I wasn’t looking forward to this. It looked like it was a typical missed connection romcom. This turned that on its head. They were looking for others instead of being the missed connection.

My favorite things about this were the chemistry between Emma and Conrad, the comedy that Kim Matula delivers, and finally the sister and brother-in-law. The brother-in-law often has random puppets, and the way that made me happy is crazy. We are a Muppets family, so to see random puppets was perfect for someone like me. My only negative is silly. As someone who grew up going to NYC often and eating there. The pizza that they were eating at the end of the movie was noticeably not NYC pizza. That pizza must be what they eat in Winnipeg, where this was filmed.
