Hallmark Star Kristoffer Polaha Directs and Stars in New Comedy-Horror ‘Mimics’. Hallmark Channel fans know and love Kristoffer Polaha from his lead roles in fan-favorites like A Biltmore Christmas and the Mystery 101 series. But now, the popular actor is taking on a brand-new challenge. In his directorial debut, the new movie Mimics, Polaha steps both behind and in front of the camera for a genre-bending story that combines romance with comedy and a spooky supernatural twist.
The story follows Sam Reinhold, played by Polaha. Sam is an impressionist who hasn’t had much luck lately. In a moment of desperation, he makes a deal with a puppet named Fergus. As you might guess, with a “wicked” puppet involved, things don’t go according to plan. The deal promises to make Sam a star, but it quickly turns into a nightmare that puts his family and friends in danger.
Fans of Hallmark will see some other familiar faces in the cast. Jesse Hutch, another network regular, stars alongside Polaha. The lineup also includes Mōriah, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Chris Parnell. Also, Disney star Jason Marsden, who played Max in “A Goofy Movie appears in Mimics.
The movie was filmed on location in Reno and produced by Ken Carpenter. It recently screened at the Cordillera International Film Festival, where it reportedly got a great response from the crowd. People seem to enjoy how it jumps between being funny and being genuinely creepy.
Panoramic Pictures just picked up the film for a theatrical release. You can catch it in theaters starting February 13, 2026. It might not be the typical Valentine’s weekend movie, but for fans who want to see Polaha try something totally different, it’s worth a look. Just maybe expect a few more jump scares than your average Christmas movie.
