Disney California Adventure Kicks Off 25th Anniversary with New Character, Shows, and Pixar Popcorn Bucket. Disney California Adventure turns 25 this year, and they’re launching a big celebration on February 6. It’s not just about the park, though; the Grand Californian Hotel and Downtown Disney are also celebrating 25 years since they all opened together in early 2001.
Here is what you can expect if you’re heading to the resort this February.
Humphrey the Bear’s Big Debut
For the first time, Humphrey the Bear will be appearing as a meet-and-greet character in the parks. You can find the snack-loving grizzly at Storytellers Cafe inside the Grand Californian. He’ll be joining the “Donald’s Tales of Adventure” dinner buffet starting February 6.
Since character dining is usually the only way to guarantee a meeting, you’ll want to book a reservation on the Disneyland app up to 60 days in advance.
The Pixar Pal-A-Round Popcorn Bucket
There’s a new popcorn bucket coming that’s modeled after the iconic swinging Ferris wheel. It’s expected to cost about $35.00.
This isn’t just a plastic container—it has “Magic Inside” technology. It changes colors and light patterns based on where you are in the park. It even syncs up with the nighttime shows. If you want one, you’ll likely need to use Mobile Order at locations like Hollywood Lounge or Grizzly Peak Airfield between February 6 and 8.
Returning Favorites and New Outfits
- Soarin’ Over California: The original version of the hang-gliding ride is returning for a limited time from February 6 through July 1.
- New Costumes: Mickey and Minnie will be sporting new “anniversary” outfits on Buena Vista Street. The designs use a lot of gold and sun motifs to celebrate the park’s original 2001 look.
- Magic Key Exclusives: If you have a Magic Key, there’s a special “road trip” themed event at the Hyperion Theater Courtyard with nostalgic photo ops and a free magnet set (while they last).
