Maul Returns First Trailer for 'Star Wars: Shadow Lord' Hits Disney+ This April

Star Wars fans just got their first look at the next animated series, Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord. Lucasfilm dropped a teaser trailer and poster today, confirming the show will premiere on April 6, 2026. The series follows Maul right after The Clone Wars. He’s trying to build a new criminal empire on a planet called Janix, a gritty, “Gotham-like” city that the Empire hasn’t touched yet. Watch the new Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord trailer below!

The teaser shows off a unique animation style. The creators used “old-school” tricks, like painting brushstrokes on glass and using canvas matte paintings, to give the city a hand-crafted look.

One surprising moment shows Maul performing a calm tea ceremony. It’s a big shift from his usual rage, but he isn’t alone. He’s joined by Devon Izara, a young Padawan who lost her way after Order 66. It looks like Maul wants to take her under his wing—but probably for his own dark reasons.

Sam Witwer is back to voice Maul. He’s joined by some big names like Gideon Adlon as Devon Izara, Wagner Moura as Brander Lawson, Richard Ayoade as Two-Boots, and A.J. LoCascio as Marrok (the mysterious inquisitor from Ahsoka).

Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord is going to move fast. It’s a 10-episode “thrill ride” premiering on Disney+ on April 6 with two episodes. Followed by two new episodes every week, and it will finish on May the Fourth!
