The documentary aims to show the actual work that goes into a production of this scale. Directed by Martina Radwan, the film covers a full year of filming. It captures the technical challenges of the final season along with the emotional reality of the cast saying goodbye to characters they’ve played for a decade.
Radwan spent the entire year on set. She mentioned that the crew and cast were incredibly open about their experiences, making it feel less like a polished promo and more like a real look at filmmaking.
For creators Matt and Ross Duffer, this project is personal. They grew up watching the extensive behind-the-scenes footage from The Lord of the Rings, which inspired them to become directors.
“We saw how stressed Peter Jackson was and thought: yep, that’s the dream,” the brothers said. They noticed that these types of “nuts and bolts” documentaries have mostly disappeared since people stopped buying DVDs, and they wanted to bring that style back for their fans.
