Indiana Jones Stunt Goes Wrong: Heroic Cast Member Steps in to Protect Audience. During a show of Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular today at Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios, the giant ‘boulder’ went off course and headed towards the audience. That is when a Cast Member put his body on the line and took a nasty bump for his heroic efforts.
In a TikTok Video shared earlier today, you can see the inflatable boulder being pushed out from behind the curtain, in what appears to be a little harder than normal fashion. The boulder clips part of the structure sticking out on its path and heads over the wall and towards the audience members.
An unidentified Cast Member is seen heading onto the floor of the show and tries to intervene and stop the moving 400lb rolling boulder, where he is immediately flattened by the ball! There were reports from audience members that the CM may have hit the back of his head on the floor. We just hope he is doing well and was not injured too badly!
Updated 12/31/2025 – The Cast Member has been identified by his first name only, Robert. He was unfortunately injured during the accident and received 6 stitches for his efforts. We wish him well.
From our vantage point, and having never witnessed the boulder go off course, it seems like the Cast Member who stopped the ball and took the hit is a hero. We do not know if the boulder can be stopped by the small wall that separates the audience from the stage, or if the boulder would have skipped right over it.
We do know Disney and the Disney Live Entertainment team take safety very seriously. We have seen this show and this scene many times and have never witnessed anything go wrong prior. In fact, part of the show is going behind the scenes and having this whole thing explained, how it is done.
The actor portraying Indiana Jones is supposed to run down the hill, being followed by a giant boulder, and dive out of the way at the last moment. The scene then gets reset, and the joke is showing how the boulder in question is actually inflatable and can be pushed back up the hill by one or two members of the ‘production team.’
