Disney Passes $5 Billion Box Office in 2025, Eyes $6B Finish. Walt Disney Studios has crossed $5 billion at the global box office in 2025, becoming the first major studio to hit that mark this year. And Disney may not be done yet. With a strong showing of Zootopia 2 internationally, and Avatar: Fire & Ash, which just hit theaters Dec 19th, still playing worldwide, a $6 billion total is now within reach.

The studio’s success comes from multiple films performing well at the same time, led by Zootopia 2 and Avatar: Fire & Ash. Rather than relying on one breakout hit, Disney built steady momentum across animated releases, franchise sequels, and family films.

For reference, 2019 was the best year ever for Walt Disney Studios, which set an international box office record that may not be broken for years to come, with over $13 billion. Avengers: Endgame, Frozen 2, Toy Story 4, The Lion King, and Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker were all released in 2019.

Zootopia 2 has been the year’s biggest driver, passing $1.2 billion worldwide and becoming one of Disney’s highest-grossing animated films of all time behind Inside Out 2 and Frozen 2. The sequel performed especially well overseas, where repeat viewings helped push totals higher.

Meanwhile, Avatar: Fire & Ash delivered one of the largest openings of 2025, bringing in more than $345 million globally in its debut. Like previous Avatar films, it is expected to earn steadily through the holiday season, supported by premium formats such as IMAX and 3D.

Disney also benefited from solid performers, including the live-action Lilo & Stitch, which added $1,038,027,526 in global revenue and kept families coming to theaters throughout the year. Plus, Predator: Badlands $183,855,158, Freakier Friday $153,176,952. Furthermore, Marvel Studios came out with Thunderbolts* $382,436,917, Captain America: Brave New World $415,101,577, and Fantastic Four $521,858,728.

Beyond ticket sales, Disney’s box office success feeds directly into its theme parks and experiences. Popular franchises often lead to new merchandise, updated attractions, and expanded character offerings at Disney parks worldwide.

With several films still earning internationally, Disney’s 2025 box office run isn’t finished yet. If current trends continue, the studio could close the year near $6 billion, further cementing its position as Hollywood’s top-performing studio.
