Disney’s 2025 New Holiday Short, Featuring John Goodman as ‘Doodle’, Directed by Taika Waititi. Disney just launched its holiday campaign with an original short film, A Disney Holiday Short: Best Christmas Ever, directed by Academy Award winner Taika Waititi.
The short premiered today on Disney+ and online. The film is the creative centerpiece of Disney’s “Make Someone’s Holiday Magic” campaign. It taps into the classic Disney themes of friendship, family, and imagination during the holiday season. This comes on the heels of the Stitch takeover of the Holiday Season for Disney.
A Disney Holiday Short: Best Christmas Ever:
The story centers on a little girl and her doodle drawing, which comes to life on Christmas Day after Santa mistakes it for a holiday wish. The animated character, Doodle, is voiced by Disney Legend John Goodman (known as Sulley in Monsters, Inc.). The short concludes with the campaign tagline: “Make Someone’s Holiday Magic.” This follows Waititi’s previous Emmy-nominated A Disney Holiday Short: The Boy & The Octopus. Walt Disney Animation Studios animator Eric Goldberg (creator of the Genie in Aladdin) advised on the short’s animation.

“Disney stories have always been a source of togetherness, wonder, and joy, especially during the holidays,” said Disney’s Joanna Balikian, SVP, Brand Management.
“It’s a kid and her new best friend, navigating the complex world together, and doing it just with the power of friendship and imagination,” said Taika Waititi.
What’s next – On November 12, Disney will host an interactive experience in Times Square, allowing fans to submit doodles via a QR code and watch their art appear on a billboard. Fans can learn more at Disney.com/HolidayMagic.
