Surprise! BDX Droids Interacting with Guests at Jollywood Nights 2025. Jollywood Nights 2025 has officially started at Hollywood Studios, and guests were in for a surprise during the first party of the season when the BDX Droids showed up at Galaxy’s Edge. The BDX Droid and its Handler are meeting and greeting guests, spending a few minutes with each guest, interacting, talking, playing, and showing off what the BDX Droids are capable of.
Disney World had announced that Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge would have a special “Life Day” meet and greet with Chewbacca for the first time, and The Mandalorian & Grogu would be returning to the extra ticketed holiday party. There was no mention of the BDX Droids showing up at Jollywood Nights, so it was a special treat for guests. BDX Droids can be found across from the Droid Depot in Galaxy’s Edge starting at 7:30 PM.
Not only was it a photo opportunity, it was a true meet and greet. Our interaction lasted roughly 5 minutes, where we got to talk to one of the BDX Droids. We met the green droid, known as GREK. GREK is the newest BDX Droid, who is learning how to be around guests. It is very shy, but it will do some amazing things. For us, it showed off how it can scan the perimeter and then looked for us to compliment it for doing a good job!
There are a total of three BDX Droids at Walt Disney World right now; Red, the strong-hearted leader, is very charismatic and always has a plan for everything. Oscar is wild-hearted and a droid full of energy, and then there is Grek, who is sweet, and the newest droid is very shy.
These bipedal droids, standing around three feet tall, are designed by Walt Disney Imagineering to be playful, curious, and highly interactive. Using advanced technologies such as reinforcement learning and an AI-driven physics engine called Newton, BDX droids can move, balance, and convey emotions with remarkable believability, enabling dynamic, spontaneous interactions with guests.
While sharing a similar design aesthetic to the popular BD-series droid BD-1 from the Jedi video game franchise, BDX droids represent a significant leap in immersive entertainment, bringing living characters to life in a way that blends cutting-edge robotics with compelling storytelling.
