Our Tribute to Radio DJ Pierre Robert 1955 2025 933 WMMR

Our Tribute to Radio DJ Pierre Robert 1955 – 2025 93.3 WMMR. As owners of Fantasy Land News, we reserve the right to pay tribute to someone who deserves our personal thanks. Yes, we write about popcorn buckets and Walt Disney World, but it is all entertainment. It is all an escape from what is going on around us right now, and so we get to say what we want to say once in a while. So please bear with me, and indulge me as I write, and as I give my respect to the voice of my life.

We are just outside of Walt Disney World in Davenport, FL. We start our day at 6:00 AM and stream Preston and Steve every morning. Pierre Robert is/was the voice of the afternoon on 93.3 WMMR in Philadelphia, starting at the end of the morning show around 11 AM until 3:00 PM Pierre Standard Time. We are listening to WMMR right now.

93.3 WMMR is one of the last radio stations in the country that has DJs who can actually interact with fans, pick the music that gets played, and say what they want to say (within reason).

Pierre Robert was the voice we would hear every day while writing articles. He would play the music we like, and he was quirky. Quirky doesn’t even come close to a gentleman who loved what he did. He would give us recaps of the day, week, and past concerts that played in the local Philly area, he would bring new music and artists to the airwaves, and he would laugh at the silliest things. Pierre would play actual vinyl albums, he would interview real artists, and he would twirl in the radio booth to the Grateful Dead.

He was like an old vaudeville routine, and a genius, and a friend, and it all came through with just his voice on the other end of the radio dial. And we would eat it all up and laugh along, and listen to the music, and know we had a friend we could trust.

You see, Pierre Robert was a connection to our past life that we personally kept. Listening to WMMR, Preston and Steve, and then Pierre every Monday through Friday was a routine that helped us! It helped us mentally, and possibly spiritually. You see, that is what music means to us. While we love what we do, writing about Disney and Entertainment, we are truly music lovers. Music is our galactic connection that keeps us grounded, or lets us soar high above the negative. Music lets us dream bigger than we are. Music is what connects us to the past.

Personally, in our past life, we toured with bands across this country. We worked with a band in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but we all have to start somewhere, and our start was the clubs of the Delaware Valley and Jersey Shore. Pierre would come out and be the MC of the night once in a while, and he was the nicest person in the world! He was fun, brilliant, and laughed a lot!

Holly just reminded me of the night we hung out with Pierre on the balcony of the Electric Factory during a Bon Jovi / Skid Row MTV’s 20th Anniversary concert, and he sat around just telling us stories all evening.

Since 1981, Pierre has been a voice on 93.3 WMMR, and we have listened to him since then. From the Morning Zoo, to Hooters concerts, to Preston and Steve’s Campout for Hunger, to Pierre’s concert coverage. Seeing and hearing an old hippy enjoying Green Day, or Slayer, while being a huge fan of the Grateful Dead, damnit, he will be missed.

We are at a loss on how to explain just what his voice meant to us, but we had to put words down. So, it is just like Pierre would, a ramble of words. Even though we knew Pierre as just a voice, we can honestly say we loved that man! The emotions are so raw right now. I know I will miss those Christmas cards!

So, to a voice that lived inside our heads (but he was real), we say Thank You! Thanks for being the background voice of our lives. Playing the music that is truly the soundtrack of our lives. We may have drifted away once in a while and cheated on you with some other music over the years, but we always came back, and you welcomed us back every single time. May your spirit be at rest. I just hope you knew how much everyone loved you!

God Bless Pierre!

BEASLEY MEDIA GROUP STATEMENT:

We are very saddened to share the passing of legendary 93.3 WMMR Radio Personality Pierre Robert.

According to police reports, Pierre was found deceased in his home on Wednesday, 10/29. The circumstances surrounding his passing are not yet known. No foul play is suspected.

A true radio icon, Pierre was one of the most recognized personalities in the City of Philadelphia. He joined the rock station back in 1981 and hosted the midday show with his unabashed love for music, his listeners, and the city.  The legendary rock radio personality was best known for his welcoming ‘Greetings Citizens’ salutation, along with his big heart and warm voice!

Pierre encompassed everything that rocks – the new and familiar, rock and alternative, punk and singer-songwriter… whether presenting in the air studio, on-stage, or unearthing treasures in the MMaRchives.

His daily features, including Noontime Workforce BlocksPierre’s Vinyl Cut, exclusive artist interviews, live in-studio performances and “On This Day” history lessons were fully enjoyed by a large and dedicated audience.

In addition, Pierre’s generosity was unparalleled- from attending and hosting the Aids Walk to his on-air support of Manna’s Pie in the Sky fundraiser, along with his active and genuine support of all charitable initiatives of WMMR.  He truly cared about his listeners and the people of Philadelphia.

One of the city’s most recognizable celebrities, Pierre was at the center of its live music scene, greeting his legions of fans as if personal friends in the smallest clubs and largest stadiums. His star is included on the Philadelphia Music Alliance Walk of Fame.

“We all have heavy hearts today,” said Beasley Media Group Chief Executive Officer Caroline Beasley. “Pierre’s unwavering love for music and his deep connection with listeners made him one of radio’s most enduring and beloved voices. He will be greatly missed.”

The entire WMMR and Beasley Media Group family are deeply saddened by this incredible loss. Our condolences go out to Pierre Robert’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.
