How The Looming 2025 Gov Shut Down Could Impact Your Disney Vacation. Don’t Panic! (yet) The US government is heading for a shutdown in a few days, which could still be prevented. It is always good to be prepared just in case, so we have put together ways your Disney travel plans could be impacted.
The US Government can shut down on October 1st, 2025, if the two parties in Congress cannot come up with a spending bill that keeps the government open. The FAA, Federal Aviation Administration, and the TSA, Transportation Security Administration, are both considered ‘essential’ federal employees and must continue to work without pay until everything is resolved.
What to expect if the US government shuts down? What does this mean for traveling to Walt Disney World, Disneyland, and Disney Cruise Line? Walt Disney World, Disneyland, and DCA are private businesses, and a shutdown would not have any bearing on them. It will be business as usual. There will be no effect on the Parks, restaurants, or rides.
Short Term, this means nothing really, but the longer a gov shutdown goes, the worse it becomes. The longer the shutdown lasts, the longer the lines at the airports across the country become. This has been proven in the past, so it’s better to know than to be caught off guard. The same goes for Air Traffic Controllers, with a shortage already in place; this could also be a problem, causing travel delays.

Expect longer lines and delays, basically. Pack your patience, and get to the airport early. Keep in touch with your travel agent (Our travel partner, MEI Mouse Fan Travel, is always ready to help!) who will know better than we ever could. Getting to the airport 3 hours early for check-in and security is recommended. Try to minimize carry-ons; the less you need at a security checkpoint, the faster it will go. Always monitor your flight before departure and keep in touch with your TA.
For Disney Cruise Lines, the impact of Passport renewals and new applications could slow down or stop when funding starts running low. While emergency passports should not be affected. Just make sure to give yourself extra time.
According to Forbes Magazine: “Historically, shutdowns of a few days have had minimal impact, while longer lapses have greatly disrupted the U.S. air travel system. Nearly nine in 10 Americans (86%) believe a shutdown would inconvenience air travelers, and 60% say they would consequently avoid flying.”
