Super Mario Sequel Officially Titled ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’, Star-Studded Cast Returns!

Get ready to blast off, Mario fans! Illumination and Nintendo have officially announced the title for the highly anticipated sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and it’s taking fans to the stars. The new animated film will be called The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The film is set to hit theaters worldwide on April 3, 2026, with Universal Pictures handling the global release. Japanese audiences will get to see the movie a few weeks later on April 24, 2026.

During today’s Nintendo Direct, which marks the start of the Super Mario Bros. 40th anniversary, Mr. Miyamoto introduced a short video revealing “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” as the name of the new animated film based on the world of Super Mario Bros., set for worldwide release on April 3, 2026.

Returning Cast Confirmed

The beloved voice cast from the 2023 blockbuster is back for the new adventure. Chris Pratt will once again voice Mario, alongside Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach and Charlie Day as Luigi. The film will also see the return of Jack Black as the iconic Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.

Additional characters and their voice actors are expected to be announced at a later date.

Creative Team Back on Board

The creative minds behind the first film are also returning. Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic will co-direct the film, with a screenplay by Matthew Fogel. The original score will be composed by Brian Tyler.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is the follow-up to the incredibly successful The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which grossed over $1.3 billion globally in 2023. This new film is produced by Illumination’s Chris Meledandri and Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto. It will be co-financed by Universal Pictures and Nintendo.

Illumination, known for massive animated franchises like Despicable Me, The Secret Life of Pets, and The Wild Robot, has a longstanding partnership with Universal Pictures for financing and distribution.
