Scenes, effects, and two endings are being teased. But that doesn’t make a good news article, but how scary this year’s Terrifier House will be does make news. Words like “Gory”, “Disgusting” are being thrown around!
Get ready, horror fans. Universal is pulling out all the stops for its upcoming Terrifier-themed haunted house, and it promises to be an all-out assault on the senses. Hollywood Reporter sat down with Mike Murdy, creative director for the house, for a conversation about the upcoming HHN House. Also, Art the Clown Merch and Popcorn Bucket have been announced for 2025.
The centerpiece of this terrifying attraction is a “symphony of blood,” which will “shower” guests in a way never before seen. Mike Murdy, a creative director for the house, revealed that the team has created more of these types of effects for this one house than for any previous attraction. The effect is so intense that eventgoers will even have the option to take a second, less messy exit if they want to stay dry.
“Our drip lines that we have above your head in houses are typically about 10 to 20 percent,” explained Lora Sauls, an entertainment art and design director. “They’re opening those up to 100 percent. They’re over your head and there’s a water blast coming at you from the side, and it’s all doused in red light.”
The house is built around a narrative where Art the Clown has invited guests into his “Funhouse” to admire his “works of art.” Instead of a “greatest hits” of the films, the house will feature a single, cohesive story. In addition to the expected funhouse locations, visitors will navigate through the Clown Cafe food court and Art’s bathroom—a scene that Murdy warns is “worse than it is in the movie.” There’s even a “tunnel of love” filled with decapitated swan boats, which Sauls calls “gory” and “disgusting.”
Throughout the house, guests can look up to see Art’s “fun names” for his bloody scenes, such as “silly saws” and “naughty potty,” scrawled in blood on little signs. The house will also feature some of Art’s best kills from across all three films, sometimes twisted in even more gruesome ways. In a special treat for fans, the attraction will also include “some new, fresh kills that are in line” with Art the Clown’s signature style.
The Terrifier house promises a unique and unforgettable experience that will leave guests terrified and, likely, a little bit soaked.
