Erosion Concerns Emerge at Disney Lookout Cay’s Mabrika Cove Cabanas.
Visitors to Disney Lookout Cay, Disney Cruise Line’s newest private destination, have gone to Reddit to address concerns regarding beach erosion in the Mabrika Cove area, particularly impacting the private cabanas available for rent. Mabrika Cove at Disney’s Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point is a family-friendly area near the pier where the cruise ship docks. It features 20 cabanas, each designed for families of six or ten, with amenities like lounge chairs, a dining set, a small couch, a ceiling fan, a refrigerator, a safe, towels, and sunscreen.
The sandy beach directly in front of some Mabrika Cove cabanas has disappeared completely, in some cases being replaced by a stretch of sharp rocks. This has led to hazardous conditions for entering the ocean, including steep drop-offs and strong currents near the shoreline in affected areas, making swimming difficult and raising safety questions, especially for families with children.
These observations primarily pertain to cabanas numbered higher than five, with reports suggesting that cabanas from number eleven upwards are most acutely affected, with little to no usable beach remaining. Guests have expressed disappointment after paying a premium for these private spaces, only to find the associated beach access compromised.

Cabana Rental Costs at Mabrika Cove:
The Mabrika Cove cabanas offer a private retreat for guests, providing amenities such as lounge chairs, dining sets, refrigerators, and towels. They are designed to accommodate families and come with a notable price tag.
- Standard Family Cabanas: These cabanas are typically priced around $963 for up to six guests. An additional charge of approximately $56 per person applies for guests beyond the initial six, up to a maximum capacity of ten.
- Grand Family Cabanas: Larger “Grand Cabanas” are also available, accommodating up to ten guests for approximately $1,375. For these larger units, an additional $56 per person is charged for guests 11 through 16.
These prices generally cover the cabana for the entire day of the port visit and often include additional perks like snorkel gear and, in some cases, exclusive dining options.
While Disney has emphasized its commitment to environmental conservation in the development of Lookout Cay, the erosion at Mabrika Cove presents an ongoing challenge. Unfortunately, there is no easy solution to the beach erosion in the Bahamas. Disney will do everything it can to fix the ongoing erosion, be it bulldozing sand back into place, pumping sand from a barge, or whatever environmentally safe practice is to replenish the beach, but this issue is not going to be fixed soon or fast.
