The Last Day to Cruise on the Liberty Square Riverboat at Magic Kingdom is July 6th. Piston Peak National Park will be making its home in Frontierland in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. Unfortunately for the Liberty Belle steam paddle boat that cruises the Rivers of America, that means it is time to retire the attraction. The last day for guests to experience riding on the Liberty Square Riverboat will be July 6th, 2025. For generations of guests, the Liberty Square Riverboat has been a peaceful escape from the crowds and a nostalgic piece of Magic Kingdom’s opening-day charm.

From the Walt Disney World Website: The last day to experience the Liberty Square Riverboat is July 6. The attraction and Rivers of America will close permanently on July 7 to make way for the largest expansion in history at Magic Kingdom.

According to a recent announcement on the official Disney Parks Blog, Piston Peak National Park is coming, along with two new Pixar Cars-themed attractions. Cars from around the country are fueling up to be the wildest racer in the “wheelderness.” Of course, we know that fans are curious to see how the exciting new backdrop for the big rally race will fit into the waters, landscapes, and storytelling at Magic Kingdom. Piston Peak National Park will continue the sweeping storytelling tradition that has crossed Liberty Square and Frontierland since opening day.

The closure of Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island on July 7, 2025, is part of the long-term transformation of that side of the Magic Kingdom. Adding two new lands over the next 7 years, 4 rides, multiple shops and dining locations, plus adding infrastructure, walkways, and an update to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad that reopens sometime in 2026.

Liberty Square Riverboat – Liberty Belle

Cruise the scenic Rivers of America aboard an authentic steam-powered paddle wheeler.

See the Wild Frontier – Steam into American history aboard the majestic, Colonial-era Liberty Belle riverboat and enjoy a relaxing half-mile tour around Tom Sawyer Island. Along the way, listen to a recorded narrator—in the voice of iconic American author and humorist Mark Twain—sharing memories of Twain’s time on the Mississippi. It’s full steam ahead on this historic, nostalgic trip back to the past!

Along the River’s Edge – During this charming, 17-minute trip, you’ll encounter a rarely seen side of Magic Kingdom park. Behold a bevy of sights from the early days of the American frontier, including:

  • An early American settlement
  • An idyllic Native American village
  • Harper’s Mill
  • Fort Langhorn
  • Wilson’s Cave Inn
  • Woodland animals

You’ll also be treated to unique views of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Haunted Mansion.

Liberty Belle – Featuring meticulously detailed wood craftsmanship, the 47-foot-tall Liberty Belle is a working reproduction of the historic vessels that ferried people up and down the mighty Mississippi.

An actual steam engine converts water from the river into steam that powers the large paddle that, in turn, propels the boat. There are 4 decks with limited seating available on each.
