“Coco” Attraction and “Avatar” Destination Coming to Disney California Adventure. Disney California Adventure is set to welcome thrilling new experiences, bringing beloved stories to life in innovative ways. Pixar’s Coco and James Cameron’s massive blockbuster franchise Avatar, are coming to Disneyland California Adventure. Furthermore, Disney announced a huge upgrade to parking and transportation on the east side of Disneyland.
A Musical Journey with “Coco”: Get ready to step into the world of Pixar’s “Coco”! A new attraction themed to the film will be built near Paradise Gardens Park and Pixar Pier. This addition will occupy areas that are mostly backstage today, and construction is set to begin backstage this fall.
The attraction will be filled with the characters and music you know and love from the beloved movie, as you join Miguel on a trip to the land of the dead. This marks the first-ever “Coco” ride in a Disney park!
UPDATE! Disneyland Resort has revealed that the location for the first-ever attraction themed to Pixar’s “Coco” will be near Paradise Gardens Park and Pixar Pier, in areas that are predominantly backstage today, at Disney California Adventure park.
Pandora will take over Hollywood Backlot: Looking further ahead, a portion of the current Hollywood Backlot area will be transformed into an Avatar land. While still in the early stages of development, this project promises to transport guests to the world of Pandora. To make way for this highly anticipated experience, the “Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue!” attraction will close in early 2026.
Disney Parks previously wrote and announced: “While Pandora: The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is based on Oscar-winner James Cameron’s “Avatar” film, this new destination draws inspiration from “Avatar: The Way of Water” and upcoming Avatar films to bring Pandora to life in a brand-new way.” This new and thrilling excursion will bring all the action, excitement, and wonder of Avatar, taking guests all the way to the wide-open seas of Pandora.
JUST ANNOUNCED! The new Avatar destination coming to Disney California Adventure park will transform a portion of the current Hollywood Backlot area to make way for this new destination.
