Josh Gad Leads the Charge To Update Disney World Ride. Journey Into Imagination with Figment has needed an update for years, and now Josh Gad is lending his Disney cred to the calls for a fix to this beloved attraction and ride at Epcot in Walt Disney World. Josh Gad is at Disney World now as the Celebrity Narrator for the Candlelight Processional during Epcot’s Festival of the Holidays 2024. He is taking in the other parks and attractions as part of his trip.
Josh Gad paid a final visit to Muppet*Vision 3D at Hollywood Studios, saying goodbye to the beloved attraction before its imminent closure. He also went to the World Celebration in Epcot to visit our pal Figment at Journey Into Imagination, where he joined the chorus of others wishing for a ride update. Josh Gad posted to his Instagram account “Hey @waltdisneyimagineering 📞 me. We need to give this guy the ride update he deserves”. This could make Josh Gad the first Disney Legend to call for an update to Figment.
Josh Gad is an official Disney Legend, actor, singer, and Broadway star known for playing Olaf the Snowman in the popular movies Frozen and Frozen 2. He has also appeared in other Disney projects, like Beauty and the Beast. Josh Gad is a Tony Award winner for his role in Book of Mormon, and a Grammy Award Winner for the same musical. Mr. Gad is a Florida native who spent many years coming to Walt Disney World.
Journey Into Imagination with Figment has been running in its current form since it was refurbished for the second time in 2002. The first refurbishment was a failure! Disney Imagineering removed Dreamfinder and removed almost all references to the beloved purple dragon, Figment. Dr. Nigel Channing became the host of the attraction, guiding guests through various scenes and special effects. Sound, Scent, and Sight, all became show scenes, along with going upside down through Figment’s room after Dr. Nigel Channing abandons the tour in the Touch & taste Labs. Ending in a tribute of sorts to the original attraction end scene.
Guests have complained about the lack of Dreamfinder, the slow pacing, and the lack of history. Also, people complained about Tony Baxter, the original ride designer, not being involved in the ride updates. Tony Baxter is another Disney Legend and Walt Disney Imagineer who has called for a ride update to Figment.
Figment is the unofficial mascot of Epcot here at Disney World and has been making news of late. Within the last 2 years alone, we have gotten a Figment meet and greet, he showed up once again in the smash hit Disney/Pixar film “Inside Out 2”, and a year ago was featured in some viral posts from Disney Parks showing our Disney East Dragon visiting Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, CA. Which started speculation of a possible Figment Animated movie or show of some sort.
Figment is also making news right now with the Holidays returning to Epcot with Festival of the Holidays 2024. Each year the dragon gets a new sweater to wear only during the holidays, and this year Disney has started selling an adult-sized quarter-zipper sweater with the same design.
